About Visual Arts at Holy Name Convent P.O.S

Rebirth. A time of revival, regeneration. The work presented in this exhibit marks a new chapter, for both our students and our school. As these young women celebrate the completion of a substantial body of work and a transformative journey as artists, our society also adjusts to new ways of thinking and approaching everyday life. Thus, our theme is intended to capture the hopeful tenor of this moment and the much needed escapism that visual arts can provide.

Holy Name Convent has a long and proud artistic tradition. There are many who still remember Mrs. Spencer and Ms. Akien, past HNC art teachers, who have contributed to the school's legacy immeasurably. We have made it our mission to see that this tradition continues to grow from strength to strength. Our annual art exhibition has been for many years a highlight of the school's calendar that the students, parents and wider HNC community look forward to.

Due to the school's physical displacement, following the earthquake of  2018, for the first time in decades we were unable to host our student's exhibition in 2019. As life would have it we are now faced with an even greater challenge in the time of Covid-19. However, we did not want another year to go by without showcasing our student's work. So it is with great pleasure and pride we offer you a virtual experience, with some insights into the thoughts and motivations of our budding artists.

We would like to take this opportunity to give a special thanks for the hard work and dedication of the the Form 5 and 6 art teachers Mrs Cozier and Ms Joseph, as well as our fantastic exhibition committee: Abigail Corbie, Anya Blenman, Asia-Marie De Freitas, Chezza Chan Tack, Jamie-Lee Smith and Mellisha Rahamut
