Artist Statement

I take inspiration from everything around me, from my family and friends, nature, other artists, my favorite books, my life and my feelings at the time. Just as life moves on and feelings and perspective change, so do my pieces. Most of my finished pieces are often very different from the first idea or sketch. Some of my best ideas come when I’m not thinking about the piece I’m working on at all. I am very much a perfectionist and I try to make my work as realistic and neat as possible. While in some cases this is good, for example in graphics, in other cases, for example a portrait or a landscape it causes problems to arise . To overcome these I take a step back and try to look at it differently, this has helped me finish many challenging pieces. Over these past two years I have tried to let go of this trait and try to embrace all the happy accidents when they come my way. I think this has helped me improve as an artist greatly.
